President Obama is challenging high school students to compete in a contest where the winner will have him speak at their graduation this spring. Students must answer four essay questions and submit a video about how their school is meeting President Obama’s 2020 goal of having the highest proportion of college graduates in the world.
President Obama specified in a video message that investing billions of dollars in strengthening the nation’s schools will ensure that the U.S. reaches that goal. “Graduation is an important moment for anyone. But a high school diploma is also important to our success as a nation.”
Students from public high schools must complete their application by March 15 th . Six finalists will be selected by the White House and the Department of Education. These schools will be featured on the White House website where the public can vote for the top three schools. President Obama will select a national winner from the three finalists and visit the winning high school to deliver the commencement address to the class of 2010.
